Winemaking, Vineyards & Growing Season:
This wine is made with Pinot Nero grapes from Oltrepo
Pavese vineyards. The vineyards are located at 350 meters
above sea level and are at least 20 years old. After pressing,
the must remains for 48 hours at 15 Celsius in order to
extract the primary aroma and flavors. During maceration,
the wine is pumped over in order to favour the extraction of
noble tannins. After malolactic fermentation in steel, the
wine rest for 12 months in French oak barrels (20% new oak)
and, at least a further 6 months in stainless steel.
2004 Barbera d'Asti Superiore "Itala" DOC
Winemaking, Vineyards & Growing Season:
Harvested in October, a very careful selection of Barbera
d’Asti grapes allows Italo Vini to produce this Superiore almost
every year. The wine ferments for 6 to 8 days and then
is aged for 15 months in oak. A second period of aging in the
bottle provides the wine with complexity and character.
