Terre di Trinci

Probably of Longobard origin, the Trinci family were the rulers of Foligno from 1305 to 1493. The Trinci palace, situated in Piazza Grande in Foligno, has been the center of political, social and artistic life of the town for centuries. The hills surrounding this land are particularly suited for red wine production. The king of Umbrian wines is without a doubt: Sagrantino di Montefalco. Dr. Lodovico Mattoni, the owner of the winery, is credited with making one of the first dry Sagrantino wines. Previously all wines from the Sagrantino grape were made into Passito wines from partially dried grapes, following the local tradition. Mattoni is the current President of the Consortium for the Protection of Wines from Montefalco. The winery "Terre de' Trinci" has more than 300 Ha vineyards, that allows a production of about 20.000 Hl wine.
